Overview
This wonderfully challenging windward side course above the Marine Base at Kaneohe eats balls. So stop in Honolulu before you drive just over the Pali and get at least one ball per stroke of your handicap. Why so many? To start, the slope rating here is 155+. That's the highest in the US. Second, there are wonderful ocean views so it you don’t keep your head down and shank one or three, you'll end up in a tropical rain forest. Think Grand Canyon with tropical shrubs and a layer of fallen leaves to hide your ball. Then factor in the wind, and often rain, that whistles up the mountain and funnels through the Pali.
Good thing there are no snakes in Hawaii. The critters you hear when you 'scrub dive' in search of your all are doubtless rats or mongooses. The later were imported from India to eliminate the former, but then it was learned rats are active at night and mongooses hunt during the day and never the twain shall meet. Look at it this way, the local kids pay for their college with balls retrieved from the rough here.
Non-residents pay $85 weekdays, $100 weekends, and $50 after 1 p.m. weekdays in the summer.
18 holes, 7310 yards. Par 72 slope rating 155+ -- good luck! |
