  Overview

Golf in hiloOf the 20 or so Big Island Courses the second choice Mauna Lani courses have offered Lee Travino, Jack Niclauas and other senior golfers fine venues for the Senior Skins Game, and while the new Hualalai course hosts the Senior MasterCard Tournament the second choice is still the Westin Mauna Kea Course Golf Digest ranked #9 for Aesthics. While these are the courses of choice, you can make a case that the Hilo Municipal Golf Course (88-959-7711) offers solid budget golf ($20 weekdays, $50 weekends but locals pay $5 and $8!) in the area devastated by the last tidal wave. Up on the volcanoes, the aptly named Volcano Golf and Country Club's course (808-967-7331) is a bit short at 5,936 yards for 18 holes. The views of the volcanoes, the cool mountain air and the 'interesting' experience trying to chip back onto a fairway from the unforgiving lava make this a unique alternative on a good day at $36 weekdays and $40 weekends.
