  Overview

More than other Hawaiian Islands, Maui offers tent camping permits after arrival. Hosmer Grove up on Haleakaka even has six campsites that don't need permits. Otherwise, permits to tent here are available at the Visitors center. There are several cabins on the volcano that can be reserved 808-572-9306. Most have nearby tenting with permits. State Parks (808-244-4354) has more camps to reserve over in Polipoli forest. In East Maui past Hana there are some free camping areas where you can stay for three days.
