Q: What is a “must see” at the Whalers Village?
A “must see” is the Whalers Village Museum where you can take a trip back in time to the years between 1825 and 1860, referred to as Maui’s “Golden Era of Whaling.” Viewed through the eyes of the ordinary sailor, hundreds of artifacts, photomurals and interpretive graphics guide visitors through the whaling trade.
Whalers Village has become very upscale with many big designers and trendy names. If you only have a short time, save the Gucci and Christian Dior visits for another time and then browse through The Gecko Store, Lahaina Scrimshaw or Reyn’s for your Hawaiian-style shopping,
Whalers Village has a free shuttle service that operates throughout the Kaanapali Beach Resort.
Award-winning sand sculptor Billy Lee uses his skills weekly to create huge, detailed sculptures he calls “Sandimagination.” Visitors can watch as he transforms a mound of sand into creations such as a baby humpback whale nuzzling his mother or a mermaid frolicking with a school of dolphins.
In addition to a food court that offers everything from ice cream and coffee to pizza and Korean BBQ, Whalers Village also houses three full-service seaside restaurants – Hula Grill, Leilani’s on the Beach, and the Rusty Harpoon. |
