Located just down from the USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Bowfin is the centerpiece to a museum dedicated to submarines in all their aspects. The USS Bowfin itself is a refurbished World War Two-era submarine that actually saw several years of war service following its commissioning in 1942. A tour of the sub offers the visitor a glimpse into the cramped but exciting life of a submariner. The nearby museum offers an impressive collection of submarine-related artifacts such as their weapon systems, photographs of life on board, paintings, battle flags, original recruiting posters, and detailed submarine models, all illustrating the history of the U.S. Submarine Service.
