The Arizona Memorial can be an extremely popular site, especially in the summer months, and the crowds at all hours of the day can be overwhelming. Visitors are issued tickets for the film and the shuttle to the Arizona upon arrival at the center, but waits of one hour or more are not uncommon. So get there early! Since the last tour sets off at 3 p.m. you should get to the Visitor Center by 1 p.m. to ensure yourself a spot.
There are no age or size restrictions for the USS Arizona, but children under 5 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Appropriate dress is required, i.e. no bathing suits or bare feet.
Remember, the USS Arizona Memorial is not just a monument, it's an actual gravesite for the men beneath, so think of it as a graveside visit and act accordingly.
You're welcome to bring offerings of flowers or leis. Many choose to lay them before the names on the memorial.
As you're standing contemplating the USS Arizona beneath, look for leaking oil from the
ship's hull. It's still floating to the surface at the rate of 2/3 quart a day.
Transportation to Pearl Harbor may be arranged through your Waikiki hotel or you can easily arrange your own transportation. Several city buses run there from Ala Moana Center.
It's also not difficult to find tour companies offering shuttles to Pearl Harbor from Waikiki hotels, usually at about $3 a head one-way.
