You can easily get to Sea Life Park by city bus. Take Bus #22 or #58 (Sea Life Park) from any stop along Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki. The bus will drop you at the park’s front entrance.
Sea Life Park also offers its roundtrip Shuttle Service for $5 per person, picking up from a select number of Waikiki Hotels. Call Sea Life Park to find out which ones.
Photography is welcome at the park, though you may also choose to buy one of the park’s snapshots. They can take them of you walking in the Hawaii Reef Tank or with the dolphins.
The park has a number of eating establishments, all offering snacks or light foods as well as some heartier fare like roast bar-b-que chicken at pretty moderate prices. You won’t be allowed to bring your own picnic lunch inside so plan ahead.
Across the street from Sea Life Park is Makapu’u Beach Park, an ideal place to sit and enjoy a picnic lunch. There are a few picnic tables provided, otherwise spread out in the sand.
Just off the coast you’ll see a whale-shaped island called “Rabbit Island” by locals. Legend has that King Kalakaua released several rabbits there that had been given to him as gifts. They supposedly prospered for awhile until the vegetation was exhausted. You’ll have to swim out there to find out if there are any left. And if it’s a day look out on the eastern horizon to spot Molokai. |
