With three dozen tanks to visit and several exhibits to browse through, visitors my want to come back on another day to do their shopping at the 6,000 sq. foot Maui Ocean Center Store. In addition to souvenirs, the store also has exotic items like Tahitian pearls as wells as an extensive collection of Hawaiian books. Shoppers passes are available so visitors can go straight to the store without having to pay the admission fee.
Audioguides (2 for $4) are available in English, Japanese and German to help visitors swim through the exhibits and aquariums. With the push of a button you get a detailed description of the attraction.
The center specializes in interaction between the staff and visitors and has several naturalists throughout the site that give lectures every half-hour. There are also several volunteers available to answer questions.
The Maui Ocean Center has two eateries – a self-serve courtyard shop called the Reef Café and a full-service, open-air restaurant called the Seascape Maalaea. Located on the water overlooking the harbor, the Seascape offers Pacific Rim cuisine as well as sandwiches and salads. |
