Inside Tips
A “must see” is the Iao Needle, the Iao Valley’s centerpiece that was shaped by several volcanic eruptions.
A general view of the park can be explored by any of the several short leisurely hikes, but if you really want to see the enormity of the park, come back on another day to get deep into the valley on the longer and less-crowned trails.
The Iao Valley is one of the wettest spots on Earth so bring a rain jacket or an umbrella, as tropical cloudbursts are common.
The Iao Valley State Park is very tourist-laden. Try to arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds.
Food is available in the nearby town of Wailuku. |
