Overview
The upscale Kona Village Resort's Friday night Luau is the longest running on the Big Island, and many consider the Maki Sushi, Lomi, Salmon, Opihi, fresh fish, LauLau, Chicken long rice, Teriyaki beef and desert classics such as Haupia pudding, banana and papaye po'e and Haupia cake the best and most authentic luau food in Hawaii.
The dance and music section is equally high quality. Most of the dances are Hawaiian hulas, with the odd Maori warrior haka that makes one wonder what happens when a nurse in New Zealand asks a Maori patient to stick their tongue out. The rapid and sexy Tahitian tamure suggests reasons why Captain Blight's men deserted, and the obligatory Samoan fire knife dance finishes things off with fire and flash. The performers are professionals who have placed well in the many Hawaiian hula competitions. Lovely surroundings complete the package. |
